Design and Make My Own Business Card!

In this day and age, even though digital tools for sharing information are evolving, the business card remains its importance in any industry. A good and creative business card can be the first step in helping your potential customers get to know you, including brand recognition and advertising. Meanwhile it is also a good old offline “contact us” page, which contributes to professional relationships and business growth.

Due to the importance of business cards for personal career development, I hope to do enough research and study on it, and create my own business cards before graduation! ( I put the resource link below, don’t miss it! Highly recommend reading and watching!)

  • Define the Brand Identity:

“ Determine the style and message you want to convey. Think about the style of animation you work in .” For me, I define myself as a 2D animator and illustrator. So when I design my own business card, I may put some 2D avatar or illustration of my own character in it. It could be playful and artistic.

  • Choose the Right Format:

“ The size of a standard business card typically varies by region, but the most common size used worldwide is:

3.5 inches x 2 inches (89mm x 51mm)”

Although the most common shape of business cards is rectangular, current printing and paper-cutting technology has developed rapidly, many new shapes and materials of business cards have been widely popular. I considered making the overall shape of the business card into a rectangular small card with three folds, a little bit like a greeting card I guess.

  • Incorporate Your Work:

Of course, I consider adding a QR code that links to my online portfolio, website, or demo reel. I’ll also suggest other two teammates do so.

  • Key information to include:

Name and Title: Include your name and a clear title. For me, probably like :

2D Animator/Illustrator     Guanjing Mu

Contact Information: Include an email address, phone number, and website (or social media handles, if relevant).

Social Media Links: Instagram, Behance, LinkedIn, or Vimeo. Visual platforms are especially important in the animation industry.

I think all of the above information and ideas are very useful and I can’t wait to start designing my own business cards now! But before that, I would like to design a group business card for my “graduation film” team, including myself and two other teammates[Mingyu Deng and Shulei Yin]. I hope this business card can contain the information of all of us and be associated with our graduation film [Beneath the Bubble]. I will update the progress of making the business card in the next journal.
